Lodge Dutch Ovens have been around for over a century. They are made by the Lodge Company. The Lodge Company was formed in 1896 by Joseph Lodge. Your new Lodge Dutch oven must be seasoned with vegetable oil before the first use. To begin, heat your new cast iron to remove the packaging wax. Next, wipe down with vegetable oil. Using animal fats is not recommended as it can go rancid. After applying the oil, heat it up again to fuse the oil to the pan. Now, you are ready to cook in your new pan. Some cast iron cookware from The Lodge Company is now pre-seasoned and ready to use. Lodge is the first to offer this new product.

You’ve cooked and eaten your meal now it’s time for clean-up. It’s easy to clean your Lodge Dutch oven. Simply scrape out the larger pieces of excess food. Then, with a paper towel, rub salt around your Dutch oven until clean. Wipe down with vegetable oil. Store your Lodge Dutch oven in a dry place to prevent rusting. Cast iron will rust easily and cause damage.
